problem statement
Out of 200 people in the 50 mile radius of Berlin, Maryland, during the month of March to April, 72% reported that they currently use dry erase markers. Out of the 72%, 49% of them change their dry erase markers monthly, and 14% of them change their dry erase markers weekly. Studies show the biggest issue of dry erase markers is that they dry out too quickly.
1. Program that matches students style of learning to teacher's style of learning.
It is an idea that a friend brought up when she was talking about how she felt frustrated with her teachers because she knows that she can learn the materials but feels like she cannot learn her best through different teaching methods that do not fit her own. Currently, there are no viable solutions to combat this issue.
2. Reviving dry erase markers.
An idea brought up by Amella Mehan when I thought about a time when my teacher was short on dry erase markers due to them all drying out because students would forget to fully put the cap back on. Currently, the only solution I could find were small DIY projects that would take time and effort that would not be worth the reward.
Justification:
3. Predetermined designs that can stick onto real nails.
An idea brought up by Amella Mehan when I realized nails are typically expensive and requires maintenance. Currently, there is some solutions but they require a professional as well as continuous maintenance.
Justification:
4. Product that can safely remove dried oil-based paint on skin.
An idea brought up by Amella Mehan when I recalled my sister was painting her house and got paint stuck on her hands, she couldn't find any safe products that can remove the paint. Currently, there are some solutions but they are products not intended to be used as a dissolver for oil based paint, but only contain the necessary molecules to break down the oil.
Justification:
5. Auto attendance counter for students to the office.
An idea brought up by a teacher who struggled to enter the attendance for the classes, because she was teaching. There are not any automatic attendance counter and typically the teachers are responsible for attendance so there are no solutions to the issue.
Justification:
6. Timed metronome vibrator that allows a determined setting.
An idea brought up by Kyle Schaffer, he needed a product that can help keep him in tempo while playing in E-Sport tournaments and it couldn't make noise as he would drown it out over time. Currently, there is one solution which is a watch made for musicians but it is very expensive and has limited range.

Summary:
I was relatively surprised how many people were willing to buy a product that could revitalize dry erase markers, which makes sense since more than 50% of the people who said yes said they change dry erase markers monthly. I am not passionate about dry erase markers specifically, but merely passionate about increasing convenience and reducing waste as we would reuse dry erase markers and extend their lifetime. This concept is a small but important idea as it would help a lot of people who really need to save money but require dry erase markers. Even though dry erase markers is cheap by itself, it accumulates over time.
